Earthquake in Russia: Tonight, earthquake tremors were felt twice in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. According to Indian Standard Time, the first tremor was felt at 12:28 pm and the second at 12:38 pm. In an interval of only 10 minutes, the locals got scared after the earth was shaken twice and came out of the houses.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the intensity of the first shock was 7.8 on the Richter scale, and its center was about 85 kilometers below the earth. Whereas, the second time, the intensity of the shock was measured at 6, and its center was at a depth of about 30 km. Russia's State Geophysical Service reported that about 5 small aftershocks were recorded after the first shock.
Immediately after the earthquake, the US Meteorological Department issued a tsunami alert. People were asked to stay away from beaches and weak buildings. The local administration deployed disaster management teams and appealed to be vigilant for necessary precautions. However, no loss of life or property has been reported so far.
The Kamchatka Peninsula has been facing continuous seismic activities in the last month. This is the third time this week when earthquake tremors were felt here. Earlier on 29 July 2025, there was an 8.8 magnitude earthquake near the Kamchatka coast, which was counted among the largest earthquakes of the last decade. At that time too, high waves arose in the sea, and many countries issued a warning.
Earthquake experts say the Kamchatka Peninsula is located on the Ring of Fire. Earthquakes are common due to activity of tectonic plates here. They advised the citizens to stay away from weak buildings and coastal areas, stay vigilant, and immediately go to a safe place in any emergency. Experts say that preparations and vigilance are the biggest security measures in such areas.
